Our History

The Societé du Foyer Maillard is a non-profit society, registered in accordance with the Registered Charity Act of Canada. The society was formed, when a French Canadian Maillardville couple made a substantial land bequest in the 1960’s. Their wish was to build an affordable home for seniors. The wish became a reality, with the support and donations of many community residents, CMHC and B.C. Housing Corporation.

The Foyer Maillard opened its doors as a residence for seniors on May 1, 1969 offering supportive housing for seniors in a room and board model. The Foyer underwent a massive renovation project in the 1980s to incorporate licensed care in the building for those residents wishing to “age in place”. In 2014 the original building was demolished to build a state of the art, purpose built residence for seniors requiring complex care.  We welcomed our first resident into the new building on June 7, 2016.

The Foyer has seen so many changes over the years but one thing has remained unchanged, their continued and selfless commitment to helping seniors in the community.
